I am Mridula Dwivedi and I started blogging on 'Travel Tales from India' in June 2005. I renamed it Travel Tales from India & Abroad in 2016. Within a few months of the launch my travel blog found a mention on both the BBC and The Guardian. I also featured in a National Geographic Skoda Yeti Video. I was recently featured on Via.com I quit my job as a professor in May 2015. I am having a blast ever since. I do not miss my work but sometime I do miss my salary! Somewhere along the journey I ended up acquiring a Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur! I now wonder why?

This was such an engaging read. The way you described North Sikkim, Yumthang Valley and the journey to Nathu-La really captures the raw beauty and adventure of the region. I especially enjoyed the little details about shared jeeps, monasteries and mountain travel because that’s exactly what makes trips in the Himalayas feel so memorable and real. Reading this honestly made me want to plan another trip to the Northeast soon. Recently came across some interesting itineraries at https://kanchenjungaholidays.com/tour-packages which felt quite relevant while reading your experience.

Sikkim in winter is such a unique experience—there’s something about those waterfalls and monasteries in the cold that makes everything feel even more peaceful. I can relate to the hesitation about the weather, but it’s often more manageable than expected, especially during the day. Once you’re there, the views and the calm atmosphere make it totally worth it.

Really enjoyed reading this—it feels honest and relatable, especially the little details about shared jeeps, weather worries, and those unexpected moments on the road. The mix of Pelling’s calm, Gangtok’s buzz, and the raw beauty of Yumthang and Nathu-La comes through so well. It’s the kind of travel story that actually helps you picture the journey, not just the highlights.
