It is a shame the author chose to use the word ‘attack’. This term has a very specific meaning but also is open to significant interpretation that often results in thoughts of danger, blood, and even death. Clearly the vehicles on the first day were too close to the lions and they should have never been there. The male lion did not ‘attack’ anyone, but simply displayed a behavior to indicate he would protect his mate (as he should). The article here promotes unnecessary fear of these organisms. Maybe a more productive story would be about the French driver not having a guide (I assume they are required as guides are required in most parks in Africa). Or maybe about the need for a policy about proximity to the animals. In any case, I hope to get there one day to see the lions and help promote their safe conservation.
