Very nice story and pictures of Portsmouth, NH. But I need to point out that Whaleback Lighthouse is not, and has never been, owned and operate by the Town of Kittery. The town has nothing to do with it. The lighthouse is owned by the American Lighthouse Foundation and is managed by the local chapter, Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses. And the light and fog signal, still active aids to navigation, are maintained by the Coast Guard.
