A book full of pictures of hilarious roadsigns from around the U.S.

The folks at RoadTrip America have been collecting pictures of funny and odd road signs for years, and have an impressive online gallery of more than 400 photographs, submitted by RTA members from around the U.S. and Canada.

After twelve years of assembling “highway howlers” online, RoadTrip America has released a collection of favorites called Caution: Funny Signs Ahead. The hilarious photos are accompanied by fitting captions, and the book inspires the reader to get out on the open road and find some silly ones themselves.

Highway Howlers

“Ever since we hit the road back in 1994 and bagged our first highway howler, we’ve been on the hunt for more. If anything, our addiction to capturing a mixed-up marquee or a billboard blunder has gotten worse over the years.

“We’ve driven hundreds of miles out of our way, climbed through barbed wire, driven into a flash flood, ignored “keep out” signs, and yes, even stopped on the New Jersey Turnpike during rush hour. Once you’ve been bitten by the funny sign bug, there is no cure…

“One of the most delightful features of a road trip is the element of surprise, the feeling you get when you turn a corner and see something that makes you shout ‘OMG! Stop! Where’s the camera?’

“We hope you get that feeling as you turn the pages of this book. And if it makes you go out in search of funny signs, remember two things: 1) Stopping in middle of a busy freeway could result in a hefty fine. 2) But if you’re going to do it anyway…send us the pictures!”
