I spent a fun week down in the Big Apple on business in January 2020.

The start of a new year was the perfect time to discover a new home away from home–right in the heart of Manhattan, the most interesting and exciting place in the world!

My choice of lodging couldn’t have been better. The New York Sheraton Times Square offers huge Club Suites that rival the size of a typical Manhattan apartment.

My suite 1407 had everything I needed to be ready for my business meetings and not stuck somewhere in the outer boroughs for crucial social mixers known as happy hours.

I had two bathrooms, a giant bedroom, and two other rooms with comfortable couches and a killer view from all sides of Times Square below.

The Hotel’s History

With comfortable couches, a fullsize table, and a long hallway, this Sheraton hotel suite feels like an apartment.

Since opening its doors as the Hotel Americana in 1962, Sheraton New York Times Square has enjoyed a rich New York City history, welcoming high-profile figures from The Beatles to a number of U.S. Presidents.

Back in the 1960s, the hotel’s most popular restaurant and jazz club – The Royal Box – was a hotspot for legendary performers like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Peggy Lee.

A Makeover in 2018

When the hotel first opened, it gained fame as New York City’s tallest concrete frame building, with its cutting-edge 53-story structural dip design. In recent years, the hotel unveiled a $180 million top-to-bottom renovation that included a complete redesign of guest rooms.

Situated on the edge of Times Square, Sheraton New York Times Square’s guestrooms and public spaces offer unique amenities and a prime locale appealing to both leisure and business travelers.

What Other Travelers Say

Here is what one traveler said about his 2020 stay at the hotel.

“This is a big convention hotel, in a central location. It is an easy walk to Times Square and Rockefeller center, and the subway right outside the hotel providers quick access to midtown east, downtown, and Columbus Circle. There are plenty of good places to get dinner nearby as well.

The rooms are small but functional and the beds are reasonably comfortable. They have fewer TV channels than in some other hotels (no HBO) but in the age of streaming that is less of an issue than it once was. Some rooms have great views, others look into offices across the street. If you have status the concierge lounge is excellent with good breakfast options as well.

“There are also other food options including room service. The fitness center in the basement is exceptional – one of the best I have ever seen at a hotel. The staff is also very friendly and attentive, and they do seem to recognize the “regulars” which isn’t something you would expect in such a big hotel.”

The hotel features 1,780 renovated rooms, a signature Sheraton Club Lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Seventh Avenue, multiple dining options, and a 4,000 square-foot Fitness Center with industry firsts such as a 10-bike Peloton room and an on-staff team of certified fitness trainers.
