The first flights between New York and Chicago to Haneda Airport in Tokyo are launching October 30, 2016. All Nippon Airways (ANA) will be the first airline to offer these direct flights making it much easier for U.S. travelers to get to the Japanese capital, with flights leaving from both cities daily. Haneda Airport is only 30 minutes from Tokyo’s city center making transfers into the city much quicker than from Narita, which is about an hour and a half away.

Here’s what else is new in Tokyo…

  • Robert Parker is taking his wine-rating expertise to the world of sake. In order to determine the best in the world, Parker is leading a Sake Olympics, where the best restaurants across Japan will each serve one of the top-rated sakes during Sake Week in December. Park Hyatt Tokyo will be showcasing one of winners at the New York Grill.
  • Park Hyatt Tokyo is collaborating with artist Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic to create limited addition chocolates for sale at the hotel for Valentine’s Day. He will create an original work which will be on display in the hotel and the design will be imprinted on chocolate bars creating a special, artful treat. His work has been exhibited at MoMA, The White House, and Art Basel.
  • Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market, one of the great food wonders of the world, is scheduled to move in early 2017 to a new location. Because of the history and roots of this market, making it a cultural landmark, this move is big news in Japan’s capital city. *The move was scheduled for November 2016 but has been postponed.
