As many of you know, Iceland has been causing some trouble lately. Eyjafjallajokull, the name of the Icelandic volcano that I could never spell from memory, has been delaying flights, causing economic trouble, and causing all kids of crazy headlines in the news, while also creating some very photogenic scenes. It has also gotten the world’s attention and now everyone is reading up about Iceland. Once the ash settles, and people can go back to their normal lives, there will be adventurous travelers excited to get over to Iceland and check this volcano out. So what else is there to know about Iceland? Plenty!
GoNOMAD has had three articles written about this mysterious country (and always looking for more).
First, check out the destination guide to Hellnar, Snaefellsnes, Iceland. The guide includes the best times to go, as well as some of the great attractions to check out including the Snaefellsjokull Glacier (another thing I could not spell from memory or pronounce).
Then read about more fun things to do in Iceland by reading “Iceland Offers Nightlife, Deserts, Glaciers and a Lot More!“by Sandy Fox. The article explores the culture, history, and current lifestyle of Iceland.
“Iceland –a stark contrast of glaciers and deserts, waterfalls and volcanoes, lunar landscapes and deep fjords, hot springs and cool geysers. Iceland is all of this and more. For the traveler who enjoys an abundance of activities, sights and adventure and travel at fair prices, this new destination might be just what you’re looking for.”
Lastly, if checking out volcanoes and glaciers doesn’t interest you, you could always check out Elf School. Ann Waigand wrote “There are elves, light-fairies, hidden people, dwarfs, gnomes, and mountain spirits, and, thanks to my Elf School textbook, I have drawings to tell me how each type appears.” She goes on to explain her experience in Iceland, learning about another side of their culture that some don’t get to see.
So now that Iceland has your attention, wait for the volcano to settle down, then plan a visit! It has the best of all worlds: beautiful landscapes, exciting nightlife, and magical inhabitants.
