Five New Places to Sleep in Luxury in Los Angeles
By Kayla McMillan
Autograph Collection Hotels, part of Marriott International, Inc., recently celebrated the opening of Westdrift Manhattan Beach, which rests on 26 acres in the South Bay – just a ten-minute drive from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). (Yes, it’s spelled that way!)
Westdrift features 393 beautiful coastal guest rooms and suites including stunning views and 112 of which have private balconies. Westdrift Manhattan Beach, named after the winds that famously swept dunes over the Manhattan Beach boardwalk, will feature a beautiful lobby with a custom driftwood check-in desk inspired by the pier.
Close to the Beach
Right in the heart of the popular Manhattan Beach community, Westdrift is only a mile to the beach, and a quick trip to The Point, the city’s shopping, entertainment and dining hub.
Guests can also enjoy on-demand movies from their in-room Smart TV or outdoor lawn games such as shuffleboard, croquet, corn hole and more.
Guest room rates begin at $219 on average.
Fritz M gave the hotel five stars on TripAdvisor stating, “My company booked me here on the last minute, pre-Christmas trip and I was blown away by the friendly, thoughtful service, the wonderfully appointed rooms, and the beautiful grounds. My only regret is that I didn’t book a later flight out so that I could stay and relax here.”
The Highlights: Westdrift Manhattan Beach features 393 luxury guest rooms combining iconic designs, amenities and culinary offerings that speak to both coasts. Take some time to enjoy the nine-hole golf course, indoor and outdoor restaurants, a cross-fit inspired fitness center, a pool surrounded by cabanas, 18 meeting rooms, a traditional ballroom, and three large industrial-chic venues.
The Hoxton, LA (Downtown)
Stay at The Hoxton, LA, a standout hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The Hoxton, a British hospitality brand, already having accommodations in Paris, London, and Amsterdam brings their “individual, open-house hotel” stateside that features the perfect mix between a British and American interior. This 174 guest room hotel is The Hoxton’s fourth lodging option in the US, and it seems to be a perfect fit for the expressive building and visionary neighborhood.
It sits in a 10-story Broadway building that was formerly the headquarters of the LA Railway Authority, which has been transformed by Ennismore Design Studio to feature chevron timber floors, metallic accents, and details inspired by the building’s Beaux Arts architecture.

Looking to book The Hoxton, LA for a meeting? This wonderful hotel includes The Apartment, an innovative meeting and event space featuring five private rooms each with access to the kitchen, which serves snacks and beverages all day included in the space rental. Catering menus are also available for groups with a bigger appetite.
Rates yet to be announced, The Hoxton, LA opens in Summer of 2019.
The Highlight: Get the pulse of downtown Los Angeles at the all-day dining restaurant on the ground floor, the basement bar or at the stylish rooftop pool and bar. This chic British brand hotel will keep you entertained during your stay.
The Mayfair Hotel (Downtown)
The Mayfair Hotel, a historic Downtown building once known for where the first ever Oscar after-party was held, features hip new restaurants, bustling bars, and newly refitted rooms. When the hotel originally opened in 1926, it was known as the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.
Enjoy their three new dining options including the Eve American Bistro, M Bar, and The Library Bar. Eve American Bistro, owned by Hells Kitchen winner Scott Commings, offers a New American menu that focuses on California’s earthy cuisine.
Initially walking into the lobby will already leave you breathless, featuring the building’s original stone columns from the 1920s. The building now features an outdoor pool on the third floor surrounded by cabanas overlooking the Downtown skyline, as well as a fitness center. The Mayfair Hotel also includes an interesting new find: a podcast room that is usually booked out by innovative millennials. Guest rooms feature comfortable beds and well-placed outlets for high-tech guests.

Low season rates appear to start around $185 and vary by season and availability. The only parking option is valet, at $36 per night plus tax. A credit card is required at check-in; cash deposits are not accepted.
The Mayfair Hotel has four stars on TripAdvisor with reviews like, “I have stayed here a for 10 nights over the past few weeks on business. This is a beautiful hotel full of unique art and historic charm at a great price!

The Highlights: This 15-story, 294 room hotel features a grand lobby, mezzanine atrium, art gallery, meeting and event spaces, and three new dining options. This historic Downtown building includes a Podcast recording room and is decorated from head to toe in artwork.

La Peer (West Hollywood)
Opened in January 2018, La Peer Hotel features 105 guest rooms and suites providing a chic oasis with light-wood-framed TVs and charcoal leather chairs.
The hotel sits on North La Peer Drive between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, which makes it the neighborhood’s first hotel to appeal to appetites for more than just the design. Just a block away offers the popular vegan restaurant Gracias Madre, Craig’s, a popular celebrity hangout, and coffee shops such as Verve and the Assembly.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy a sunny outdoor pool and a covered bar. Grabbing a bite to eat at Viale dei Romani serves a scrumptious Italian menu with French and North African influences.
A nice amenity to take advantage of is the free admission to the Museum of Contemporary Art Pacific Design Center which features exhibitions on architecture and design.

Pets of any size or breed are welcome. Enroll in the IHG Rewards Club (which now includes the Kimpton brand) to avoid paying $13 daily for internet use. Valet-only parking costs $50 nightly; shave $30 off by booking a room package with parking.

Tips for booking accommodation online
Most supplier websites love to hide or not really show off reservation policies that are non-refundable and hence not really consumer friendly. When you book an hotel or rental online and are asked to make a full payment immediately to secure the property “alarm bells should ring!”
Booking very easily and quickly with well branded booking websites is like a mouse trap waiting for quick money. Cancelled bookings are a billion dollar industry and consumer unfortunately do not know about it. Suppliers and providers make money with paying consumers who are not going to use the product because something unexpected happened and a cancellation was unavoidable.
Luckily there is now a website that protects consumers by offering accommodation that asks no prepayment and has friendly reservation policies.
Now bookers can book without painful experiences because this website only shows hotel accommodation or rentals that accept a free booking and free cancellation policy for a reasonable time before check in.
Booking hotels or vacation rentals cheap is not always cheaper when the unexpected happens. The most common travel window from the moment someone books accommodation online and jumps into a plane is 2 months. Sounds like a short time? A lot can happen though and that can cost a lot of money if consumers end up cancelling accommodation.
Booking accommodation online is easy and popular. Many times bookers and can rely on the booking confirmation. Best case scenario they do not have last minute unexpected travel changes and the property you booked is reliable.
The reservation policy is the most important part of booking and not pricing. The reservation policy is the mini contract that are the terms binding for the booker. But most travelers are not familiar with such terms and can fall into costly traps.
This innovative accommodation booking platform is probably the only honest accommodation platform out there because they identified the dark part of this industry and put a lot of smiling light on it.
See you at the next booking ; )
