Five New Places to Sleep in Luxury in Los Angeles

Autograph Collection Hotels, part of Marriott International, Inc., recently celebrated the opening of Westdrift Manhattan Beach, which rests on 26 acres in the South Bay – just a ten-minute drive from Los Angelesla hotel room2 International Airport (LAX). (Yes, it’s spelled that way!)

Westdrift features 393 beautiful coastal guest rooms and suites including stunning views and 112 of which have private balconies. Westdrift Manhattan Beach, named after the winds that famously swept dunes over the Manhattan Beach boardwalk, will feature a beautiful lobby with a custom driftwood check-in desk inspired by the pier.

Close to the Beach

Right in the heart of the popular Manhattan Beach community, Westdrift is only a mile to the beach, and a quick trip to The Point, the city’s shopping, entertainment and dining hub.

Guests can also enjoy on-demand movies from their in-room Smart TV or outdoor lawn games such as shuffleboard, croquet, corn hole and more.

Guest room rates begin at $219 on average.

Fritz M gave the hotel five stars on TripAdvisor stating, “My company booked me here on the last minute, pre-Christmas trip and I was blown away by the friendly, thoughtful service, the wonderfully appointed rooms, and the beautiful grounds. My only regret is that I didn’t book a later flight out so that I could stay and relax here.”

The Hoxton, LA (Downtown)

Stay at The Hoxton, LA, a standout hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The Hoxton, a British hospitality brand, already having accommodations in Paris, London, and Amsterdam brings their “individual, open-house hotel” stateside that features the perfect mix between a British and American interior. This 174 guest room hotel is The Hoxton’s fourth lodging option in the US, and it seems to be a perfect fit for the expressive building and visionary neighborhood.

It sits in a 10-story Broadway building that was formerly the headquarters of the LA Railway Authority, which has been transformed by Ennismore Design Studio to feature chevron timber floors, metallic accents, and details inspired by the building’s Beaux Arts architecture.

Looking to book The Hoxton, LA for a meeting? This wonderful hotel includes The Apartment, an innovative meeting and event space featuring five private rooms each with access to the kitchen, which serves snacks and beverages all day included in the space rental. Catering menus are also available for groups with a bigger appetite.

The Mayfair Hotel (Downtown)

The Mayfair Hotel, a historic Downtown building once known for where the first ever Oscar after-party was held, features hip new restaurants, bustling bars, and newly refitted rooms. When the hotel originally opened in 1926, it was known as the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.

Enjoy their three new dining options including the Eve American Bistro, M Bar, and The Library Bar. Eve American Bistro, owned by Hells Kitchen winner Scott Commings, offers a New American menu that focuses on California’s earthy cuisine.

Initially walking into the lobby will already leave you breathless, featuring the building’s original stone columns from the 1920s. The building now features an outdoor pool on the third floor surrounded by cabanas overlooking the Downtown skyline, as well as a fitness center. The Mayfair Hotel also includes an interesting new find: a podcast room that is usually booked out by innovative millennials. Guest rooms feature comfortable beds and well-placed outlets for high-tech guests.

Low season rates appear to start around $185 and vary by season and availability. The only parking option is valet, at $36 per night plus tax. A credit card is required at check-in; cash deposits are not accepted.

The Mayfair Hotel has four stars on TripAdvisor with reviews like, “I have stayed here a for 10 nights over the past few weeks on business. This is a beautiful hotel full of unique art and historic charm at a great price!

The recent renovation have brought in modern concepts while keeping the historic feel. The staff are very responsive and very friendly.”

The Highlights: This 15-story, 294 room hotel features a grand lobby, mezzanine atrium, art gallery, meeting and event spaces, and three new dining options. This historic Downtown building includes a Podcast recording room and is decorated from head to toe in artwork.

A largely discussed focal feature here is the art piece “periodic table of drugs,” a modern take on infamous potent substances from cocaine to mushrooms, with what are rumored to be real samples encased securely under glass frames.

La Peer (West Hollywood)

Opened in January 2018, La Peer Hotel features 105 guest rooms and suites providing a chic oasis with light-wood-framed TVs and charcoal leather chairs.

The hotel sits on North La Peer Drive between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, which makes it the neighborhood’s first hotel to appeal to appetites for more than just the design. Just a block away offers the popular vegan restaurant Gracias Madre, Craig’s, a popular celebrity hangout, and coffee shops such as Verve and the Assembly.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy a sunny outdoor pool and a covered bar. Grabbing a bite to eat at Viale dei Romani serves a scrumptious Italian menu with French and North African influences.

A nice amenity to take advantage of is the free admission to the Museum of Contemporary Art Pacific Design Center which features exhibitions on architecture and design.

Fitness buffs can ask for a Jade yoga mat to be delivered to their room, or book a session with the resident personal trainer.

Pets of any size or breed are welcome. Enroll in the IHG Rewards Club (which now includes the Kimpton brand) to avoid paying $13 daily for internet use. Valet-only parking costs $50 nightly; shave $30 off by booking a room package with parking.

Kimia Z gave the hotel a great recommendation through TripAdvisor writing, “Perfect location and friendly staff. Highly recommend this boutique hotel especially if looking for a central location in a good neighborhood. Room was spacious and beds were very comfortable. Breakfast menu was great and restaurant staff was very attentive.”

The Highlights: Don’t miss out on an opportunity to eat at Viale dei Romani, or relax by the outdoor pool and covered bar. Take advantage of the free admission to the museum around the corner.

SLS Beverly Hills (westside)

SLS Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., finished a complete redesign of their space at the end of last year.

The renovation includes 234 guestrooms and 63 suites featuring a lighter palette and the latest in technology and comfort

s. The rooms are now decorated head to toe with mirror panels, white oak, Carrara marble and neutral fabrics that give each room a brighter look.

Two new suite styles have also emerged with the redesign including the Style Suite and the Storyseeker Suite, both with private bedroom and living areas. The 1,900 square-foot Presidential Suite has four separate rooms including a bedroom, powder room, soaking tub and rain shower; a study filled with a collection of L.A.-centric books; a dining room and a living room connected to a kitchen.

All accommodations include SMART TVs, Wi-Fi routers, and USB ports and outlets. The bathrooms are updated with rainfall showers and oversized soaking tubs.

This 4.5-star hotel offers rates for a $300 average.

Shahid B reviewed the SLS Beverly by stating, “This place was certainly luxury. The staff where all friendly from desk to the valet. The amenities where all luxury in the room like the pad with the paper. Their pool was was very nice on the rooftop but they lacked a hot tub area unless I was unaware of it. The gym was big and good enough to get a full workout. Located walking distance to Beverly shopping center and right next door Japanese restaurant Gyu Kaku.”

Choose to reserve a cabana or relax on a pool lounge surrounded by two jewel-like pools. Additionally, discover the Ciel Spa by Pearl Wellness or spend some time in the fitness center.
