Friday Flowers- Daisies Gerberas

Daisies Gerberas at Trafford Center, Manchaster, UK

I got the correct name from Lakshmi.

And while we are talking about UK I got the visa today. A kind colleague of mine collected it too. UK VFS (New Delhi) at the moment allows a third party to collect your passport (see step 8) provided that you give them an authority letter and the documents that have to be handed over for visa collection.

So in all likelihood I may travel to UK sometime soon. It would be cold.

Flower Delivery!

Ready for the Morning Business Round- Flowers for Sale on a Motorcycle, Gurgaon, India

Saw this bike while I was coming out in the morning after parking my car. I was in my usual hesitant mode, should I click it should I not? Will someone take offense or what? Then I decided to just chuck these internal debates and click a picture anyway. And no one said anything. And I am glad I clicked it.

Friday is for Flowers- Pink Rose

Pink Rose

This rose reminded me of a story from my school days. There used to run a patch of roses along the length of my school. And in those days it used to feel like an enormous and endless expanse, though if I visit it again (I wonder if the roses would be still there) I am sure, the stretch would not seem all that big.

Anyway, I was very fond of walking along with that stretch with a friend (I remember her name too!) sometimes (when I was not busy playing one sport or the other) and look at the roses. And the one that I would like most, I would ask my friend, "Isko khaa jaayen" (Should we eat it up?) And she would invariably tell me that I have a devil's mind. In reality there was no scope for plucking a rose nor did we ever did that.

I actually thought the same when I saw this picture above, "is gulab ko tou khaa sakte hain." (I could eat this rose up!) And hence this stupid tale from my school days.

Friday is for Flowers- Lotus Flowers from Bundi, Rajasthan

Lotus at Bundi, Rajasthan

The one advantage of going to Bundi in September is that the lake is full of Lotus flowers then! I have never seen so many lotus in my life before and it is a sight that would remain with me for a long long time.

One regret I have is that I clicked all my pictures in harsh afternoon light and did not manage to revisit this place around sunset.

PS. Thanks to Shankara for the name of the bird.

How Not to make a Video

Flowers at Jamia Millia Islamia University Campus- How Not to Make a Video!

I have done quite a few posts on the flowers that I saw at the Jamia Millia Islamia University Campus. On a whim I also made a video, uploaded it on Youtube, changed the voiceover of the video and forgot about it. I managed to see it again today and I know a little about how not to make a video.

I mean I know I used to do a lot of competitive middle distance running in a bygone era but there was no reason to run from flower to flower as if there was a prize for it! Then I was so monotonous, zooming in on every rose in the very same way as if there was another prize for consistency!

And whatever little you could have seen, Youtube managed to mess it up. On my realplayer, the quality is not that bad. I wonder why Youtube made it so grainy!

Roses- One of the Unforseen Benefits of Attending Conferences

Rose in Bloom

Since Monday, I have been staying at my sister's place and attending a training program at the Jamia Milla Islamia University.

Multicolored Rose

Apart from the main benefit of attending the conference, I was able to capture at least 20 beautiful images of roses. Jamia is just full of them.

Burning Bright- Another Rose from the Jamia Millia Islamia Gardens

But for me to be able to process more variety and some of the really good pictures, I have to reach Gurgaon first. So I would be blogging from the home base from tomorrow.

I was taking stroll on Sunday and took my camera specifically to click these Dahlias. The days are becoming warmer an flowers are already in bloom. Though the nights are still cold and I don't like it one bit! Looks like I may go down with cold due to this weather change.

So I will leave you just with the Dahlias today. Occasionally even I am speechless!

Flowers Again- All Clicked at Nainital

Small Purple Flowers (Butterfly Bush Flwoers) on the Climb to China Peak

All the flowers in this post have been clicked at Nainital. I can still remember the trip so clearly. Sunil and I had gone to Nainital to stay at Shervani Hilltop Resort (as their guests). On the second day we had decided to walk up to China Peak after taking the ropeway. The ropeway we enjoyed only so much but the walk to China Peak was quite an adventure. The flower above was growing in the wild.

Dahlia growing in the Wild- Nainital

Later on the road we came near a ruin and near it, this flower. My nephew was quite patient with me while I clicked every flower I saw! He sometimes would even point a bunch to me if I had missed it (though this happens very rarely). I also remember the forest department hut at the China Peak where we took shelter when it started raining cats and dogs and the people there shared some Kichdi with us that they had cooked for themselves.

Fuschia at the Shervani Hilltop Resort, Nainital

I clicked a lot of flowers in the Gandhi Bazar (Bangalore) today but the problem is that my camera is not talking to this computer. So all the Bangalore pictures have to wait till I reach back to Gurgaon.

More Flowers- Lazy Sunday Photo

Red Roses in a Bunch, What Lovely Flowers!

I know some people who like flowers more on the plants rather than in a bunch but when I find them already in a bunch I love clicking them. About myself, I do not mind occasionally holding them in my hands too, but yes they look much better on the plants.

Flowers at Covered Market, Oxford

And once again I do not know the name of the flower above. I had clicked both the pictures at Oxford in June. In fact two of my colleagues are heading to UK today and I wonder what pictures they would capture of the winter there. In fact, I took so much time clicking pictures of the flowers kept outside the flower shop that I was afraid that someone would come out and ask me to go away! It has never happened though till now though.

Purple Rhododendrons

Purple Rhododendrons

I saw these Rhododendrons in Leeds and I had to stand back and take notice. There were two reasons for this. One, I love Himalayan flowers and these Rhododendrons reminded me of the treks I have done. Two, I had never seen a purple one before! I have seen red Rhododendrons, even white and their variations but never purple.

When I shared the pictures with my colleagues, one of them came running to me and told me, "How did you manage to make the Rhododendrons purple? Aren't they red? I have never seen a purple one." Now that is something because he belongs to Uttrakhand and has lived for considerable time in the hills.

But then in Leeds these purple Rhododendrons were growing with glee!

Oh! and VJ shared his pictures of Oxford with me and take my words for it, they are brilliant.

Lazy Sunday Photo- Mountain Flowers

I must say I am crazy about flowers. Well, I am used to the ones which we can find in the city. But when we go trekking I try to click every new flower that I see. The flower images below are from our trek to Kuari Pass.

Flowers from the Mountain- Blue iris

I do know the name of this flower (the blue Iris) but unfortunately I am really not good with the names of the other beauties that I see.

Mountain Flowers

But as I said I bend down every time I see a new flower and take a picture.

Colorful Flowers and a Partial Rainbow from Bangalore!

I have been in Bangalore for past few days (Sesha belongs to Bangalore) and I never thought I would take a break from blogging. In this IT city our home was (actually Sesha's parent's home) without a net connection as soon as we landed. Only today we got it back. So here I am showing you some stuff that I photographed.

Flowers from Streets of Bangalore
I love the colors of the flowers I see on the streets, it is not so colorful in Delhi. On the flip side, CNG has made Delhi a lot more liveable, here it is getting too crowded for the size of the roads it has.

Such a Riot of Colorful Flowers
I requested all the ladies selling flowers to let me take a photograph, and they gladly did but I could not gather the nerve to ask if I could include them in the pictures too.

Shades of Oragne: Flowers from Streetside, Bangalore, India

White Flowers

What striking colors! Don't you agree?

A Partial Rainbow in Bangalore

Finally, there was a rainbow (OK, so what even if it was partial?) and I had a camera. I know the surroundings are bleak but the rainbow does not give a damn and neither do I. There were two occasssions when the rainbow had come out in Gurgaon and once I did not had the camera. The next time I didn't notice it at all. And later people told me that there was a rainbow only after it had vanished.

Finally everything worked. I had the camera, there was a rainbow and we were in the car going somewhere. We stopped for petrol and I immediately came out and took pictures and here they are!

Some More Pictures From Bangalore

When I was in Bangalore in the first week of November, the weather was like what you can see above and I had a nice time going around with my camera.

Here are some more flowers from Bangalore, but don't ask me what they are called.
This, I was told are coffee beans! Had never seen it before.
This is a fruit that in my part of the globe is known as 'Chiku.'
A street side shop that caught my fancy but I was not in a mood closer and ask for permission from the lady sitting there to take the photo.
The roads of Bangalore, and this one is good, because it has no pot holes in the middle of the road.
Small coconuts kept on a windowsill and saying Bye Bye (below) this photo was clicked at the airport.

I can Understand Why Bangalore was Called the Garden City

I have been for a few days in Bangalore and I clicked all the lovely flowers, a few coconut trees and a faboulous sunset around the housing complex I am staying. It has been raining on and often and flowers seem to just grow out of their own free will.

Though Bangalore in general has been changing , so much traffic, narrow roads, pollution and washed away roads are the things that we had to negotiate if we went out of the house. I have uploaded a few of my pretty photographs only.

More Pictures from Ladakh

Yellow Flowers- Blooming in the Cracks, Ladakh

This picture was taken near Ganda-La base, when we were trying to trek the Markha Valley. I am partial to flowers and these two caught the eye all the more because of the bleak surroundings.

Sunset at Leh, Ladakh

This picture was taken from a height while the sun was going down. Now sitting in the concrete jungle of New Delhi this looks so exotic.

Kids at Pangong Lake, Ladakh
I met these two kids at the Pangong Lake. They posed for me quite willingly. I wish, we were closer to the lake when I took this photograph.

Spitok, Ladakh

The picture below is another one of my favorites and this was taken near Spitok, after we returned from our aborted trek. This is the viewfrom the tea stall where we sat to have a cup and wait for our pickup van to arrive.
