Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur, Picture Taken in November 2008I had visited Jaipur in November 2008 along with my younger nephew. Our first stop was Jaigarh Fort and it makes for so many pretty pictures. But the one below is not pretty, taken by OrangeStreet and posted with permission.
Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur after a Night of PartySo imagine my horror when I stumbled upon the picture above at Indiamike (via Picasa). I mean how can we do this to a place like Jaigarh Fort? OrangeStreet writes-
On a recent visit to Jaipur this weekend, I happened to go to jaigarh fort on 28th Feb 2009. The fort was closed however. I was told that fort had been booked for a marriage function and was hence closed for the day.What a sad thing to do.
Well, I went back on March 1st and the fort was indeed open. The plight of it though shivered me timbers.

How terrible! And we invite tourists to come and view how little we respect our heritage. Sad!
I say we need a site where people can post such photos. Whoever is responsible for the maintenance (the ASI? ) has to be held accountable. How about advocating slashing one month's salary / increment for everyone involved in the maintenance of each ill-kept monument?
There is something wrong with our psyche. I observe the same pattern everywhere. Once I saw a young designer lad driving a fundu car exiting from swanky mall and he was tearing and scattering the parking tickets to spotless interior road.
Sunita this happened after the fort was rented out for a private party, so in this case I thought the responsibility lies with the people who hired the fort.

i just returned from a naturalist training programme where we were talking about the same issues..we need to start somewhere and I guess , talking abt them is a beginning
I hope so Lakshmi that talking would do something but many a times it feels like this may not be the case!
Well, if it can be done to Mount Everest, what chance could Jaigarh fort have?
