Indiamike and The India Tree

Update (August 22/08/2008) Once again I do not know why the Indiamike site is not loading today. I have not been able to access it too. Hope it will start loading soon.

Update (November 14, 2006): If you have come to this blog looking for why the Indiamike site is not loading on November 14, I am equally clueless. If fact, I used the site this week for information on Sikkim. If you know something about why it is down, I would be highly obliged if you could leave a comment.

There used to be a super place to hang about for all those who love traveling in India. The place is called Indiamike. Then something happened to the forum and the owner Mike archived it. I had got so much help from Indiamike forum for planning my trips to Bharatput and Bharmour. Thank you all. (As per May 12, 2006, Indiamike is up and running again.)

Now we have a new India travel forum The India Tree and it is a relief to see many of the familiar faces around. I have to start planning the trek which we would do in June. I will soon head to The India Tree for advice now.

Update: Indiamike is up again and now we have two forums, Indiamike and Indiatree for travel lovers. I think this is good news.

IndiaMike was a huge help in planning our trip and I was glad to see a new forum get online so quickly.

I've been disappointed in the negativity that was going around IM in the last 6 months; I hope this new forum can avoid that. It seemed like there were certain members who posted just for the sake of antagonizing other members and stirring up trouble.

I've been reading the India Tree every day and I'm curious to see what the "personality" of this forum will be.

Instead of creating internet rivalry why not check out how the new forum on India aims to be an interesting resource for anyone interested in India:

Anon1, I guess this post is old enough now to see comments in perspective :)

Anon2, you are of course entitled to your opinions.

indiamike is a racist website.

it will allow anything said by foreigners for india but wont let an indian say what he wants.me and my friends wanted to discuss topics relating to how women should wear in order to be comfortable while travelling and not attract too much attention.

besides india gets too many junkie travellers who are here only to do drugs without caring about anything else.

they banned us for 2 weeks saying that our topics were racist, insulting and sexist.

on the contrary ,they allowed any discussions relating to male attraction based on white colour and indian male mentality and even females asking to dye their hair from blonde and redhead to black "coz they felt it would attract too much attention and make life miserable for them".

and they didnt make our banning public..the administrators just send us a private message giving this reason for banning.if they had courage, they should have posted below our post what their objections were and that would be respectful for both me and my friends and that would let all members see what our mistake was.

i hate such double minded inferiority complex suffering whackos!!!

Radha, I disagree. I have been a long time member and even go into a controversy too, but they try their best to sort things out.

Mridula, even i had the same experience as radha did have on indiamike...and i had so many members from different websites saying me same things..that the moderator at indiamike.com has a high handed attitude towards indian people ..some even called him retarded..that day when the administrator posted an entry telling about a possible merger with relaince and spielbergs dreamwork collaboration..i simply aked its relevance on a travel site like indiamike.com ..to which the administrator took off my post and banned me for a week saying that what i said was rude and since the entry has been posted by administrator so it is relevant enough for everyone...u decide is it rude or not?..and as a member i was only 1 day old on Indiamike...!!

Pawan, thanks for your comments. I must say there are more than one moderators at IM and I have once been involved in an argument with a moderator and I would say the entire episode was handled so well. I use the site a lot and find it great.

In addition to listed moderators, there are "hidden" moderators, and *they break into your private messages on IM. I agree, it is no place for Indian members, since they cannot disagree too much, mainly a hangout for European Indiaheads.

For all of you who don't know Indiamike is now owned by an Indian/person of Indian origin! So stop this nonsense here or I will close the comment section on this post.
