Danish Cartoons: What do you Think?
I had been searching for the twelve Danish cartoons that have sparked such a disgusting outbreak of violence.
Here are The Danish Cartoons for you if you have not seen them before.
Now have a look of some of the nude paintings of Hindu deities an Indian Muslim painter, M F Hussain did quite some time back.
Compare the work and compare the scale of protests in both the events. What do you think?
I wish next time people go hyper over Intolerant India they get some perspective. I wonder if 'progressive' Indian newspapers will be running columns like 'Intolerant Islam' now?
Or is it that we have tolerance toward intolerance?
Have a look at BBC's Have Your Say too.

Someone once said that the pen is mightier than the sword. I guess these cartoons are a good example. I just read that a newspaper in Iran plans to publish some anti- jewish cartoons to test the tolerance of the west for this sort of thing.
I was once told, "self-defense is a sign of weakness", and when I relate that to the recent Muslim outburst(s), I realize that their belief in their own path is at the most flimsy, which is why they must resort to such meaningless violence and destruction. Pity.
I don't like violence but I can see why these cartoons would make tempers flare, they are quite provocative. The links provided some good background info., about why the Danish paper decided to commission the work, but somehow I don't feel their motivations were innocent.
ditto to wat crystal said..
There is a lot of political agenda behind this episode. You may want to have look at this interview in BBC's hardtalk, which featured the two people who as I see now are responsible for the whole drama. Well most of the countries that have seen savage riots in the past week are in some kind economic crisis. It goes on to the old Marxist explanation, capital is the source of all issues.
Here's a person named Abu Hamza who in one of the hardtalk episodes went global with his idea that victims of 9/11 deserved to die the way they did. And I don't recall anyone from the muslim world vehemently disapproving of what he was saying then. Besides do the general Muslim population know about people like him?
Muslims are now in a position where they see the whole non-muslim world hell bent on subjugating them, and this cartoon issue is not helping anything. A crowd's IQ is inversely proportional its size, and a religious crowd's IQ is square root of the former.
Like one of my colleagues said "I agree with 'freedom of speech' and everything, but doesn't mean you have to be an assh**e". So it was in bad taste for other European news papers to reprint in their issues just to make a point (despite clearly knowing the consequences)
About India, it's just a shame that "Satanic Verses" was banned even before anything serious happened and the paintings by Hussain weren't banned [officially] despite serious outbursts from several segments of the Hindu community. The English educated secural media (pseudo-secular as they're often called) are losing their pompous fight gradually, thanks to internet.
Anonymous, I hope the countries in the west will not torch the embassy of Iran.
Cow, I agree with you.
Crystal and Poision, foolishness happens all around. Look at the nude paintings of the HIndu goddesses and gods. I am not a religious person, but the painter did not come to any serious harm, here in India. Shall we agree with those who protest loudest?
Suresh, thanks a lot for your well balanced comment. I wish I had half a sane head as yours!
