Saddam Hussein Trail and Ramsey Clark on His Defense Team

I really do not know what to say about this article I read in The New York Times.

From the article I came to know that in Saddam Hussein's defense team is Ramsey Clark, who once worked with the Justice Department in the US and is a New York attorny. His rationale for defending Saddam is that everyone deserves a fair trail (as reported in the story). His other clients are also easily recognizable, as the NYT article reports.

It is a remarkable roll call, the men who have had him at their side at times of confrontation with America and its government: Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi of Libya, Slobodan Milosevic of the former Yugoslavia, Charles Taylor of Liberia; and, at home, fringe figures like the Branch Davidian leader David Koresh, the right-wing gadfly Lyndon LaRouche, and Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, who is serving a life term in an American jail for his role in the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993.

And what is Saddam doing these days? If we believe Mr. Clark, as quoted in NYT:

"He seemed quite mellow, and he read us two of his poems, about family life, about mothers and children, and about the possibility of violent death."

At another point in the NYT story Mr Clark says:

...people "who have a habit of seeing the world in black and white, as good and evil, of demonized characters stripped of all humanity." That, he said, was what America had done to Mr. Hussein, and, in a way, to Mr. Clark.

Forgive me, but just once in a while, I like to see my world in black and white and Saddam Hussein is one such creature. By all means give him a fair trail and let Mr. Clark defend him but when you start telling me that he is talking or writing about family, mothers and children, and about possibility of violent death, I can't help but feel like puking.

I completely agree. I don't like giving such statements, but people like him don't deserve a fair trial even, and talking about justice for people like him is like making a mockery of life and liberty.

People like him are very good at playing the sentimental cards when they are cornered. He should have been given a taste of his own mode of justice...

To Einstein I see you have feel prey to liberal press. Wherever you may be getting your information, it is wrong. I have had family, and friends serve time in iraq the past couple of years. The majority of people that live in iraq are very pleased at what the USA has done for them. To make a refernece refer to the news films of the statue of Saddam falling a couple of years back. There was a majority of people cheering when this fell, and likewise when Saddam was capatured. If so many people are unhappy where are they? The unhappy ones are the ones who are no longer in power, and cannot scare the people of Iraq into bowing down to them now. They are the minority. Look at the turnout for ability to vote. There was a 90% plus turnout to vote. This alone makes the statement they are pleased. The true terrorist are the ones that do not have the guts to fight in the open, they have to try and use sucide bombers, car bombs etc. As far as Koran abuse I have heard of only respect for the Koran, even though I do not agree with the teachings of the Koran. I do respect others of there religon, the only time I will not respect others teaching is when it tries to harm me and my homeland, and that is just what happened on 9-11-2001. Saddam was and still is a very twisted man that doe not deserve a trial. History shows that for over 30 years he was judge and jury. He ordered death to many more people over 30 years than any US action. As far as your remark about the hurricanes, the huricanes just made us stronger, we have pulled together, helping one another. The US pulled together helping just as we do for any nation that needs help. When some major disaster hits look at who puts more money forward to help, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DO, NOT IN JUST MMONEY FROM OUR GOV. BUT ALSO DONATIONS FROM PEOPLE. SO WHEN YOU GET OUT OF YOUR TWISTED WORLD AND SEE THRU SOME CLEAR EYES YOU WILL THEN BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND, WHY THE US DID WHAT WE DID AND HELP FREE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. Before you make comments you should take time to research the entire subject and not speak about something you apparently have no clue about.

Saddam Hussein has done very terrible things to his people (and he chemically poisoned that Iranian villiage) and he definitely deserves a life sentence--but also a fair trial! I think it's interesting how war crimes done by the victor are never prosecuted, and the U.S. is guilty of terrible torture practices and unjustified detentions (Guatanomo Bay is going on for 5yrs now, those men are forgotton) of foreign nationals. I'm happy that people are asking the right questions in this country, on the subject of torture.

To Einstein,

I don't wish to comment on the war trial of Saddam or related stuff, but I think its not fair of you to talk about the Rita and Katrina disasters as payback for what US did in Iraq. A lot of people suffered because of these natural disasters, its unfair to associate them with what happened in Iraq which was/is man-made.

A prominent talk radio host is saying that Saddam has the right idea for a defense by using the liberal left's whining accusation that Sadaam wasn't a threat and George Bush invaded Sadaam's country illegally.

Therefore Sadaam has a defense. The case has no standing if the war is unjust and he (Saddam) should be returned to power..... Low and behold Ramsey Clark ... to the rescue. Watch it unfold folks.
