Higher Education Sector in India Again!
Folks, this is what I have to say about another big spender Amity Business School, all information is put here is already on the net, I am just putting it at one place.

Guys, if you click only one link in this post it should be this Rajya Sabha (House of parliament of India) question-answer session transcript related to interpol arrest warrent. http://meaindia.nic.in/parliament/rs/2005/05/12rs07.htm
*Gaurav has resigned from his job. Before making up your mind about it either way, please read his post. Gaurav has all my support.

** IIPM is shown as the top search word over Technorati today (11 October, 2005)
Over to the regular post.
I had planned to spend a lazy Sunday reading Magical Tales (meant for 7 plus age group and with excellent illustrations) but it was not to be. I thought, I will have a quick look at my mails and blog and then laze around. What a hornet’s nest has been stirred at a website that I love and is all about
http://www.desipundit.com/2005/10/08/lies-damned-lies-and-fake-blogs/
I am taking a different tack here and posting links from established newspapers for two institutes and this my way of offering support for the issue raised by the excellent people at Desipundit.
Here is a quote from http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=150608
“When someone tells you his institute ‘‘is at par with the IIMs’’, you obviously sit back and look up. ‘‘In fact, I want to become much better. The only thing we need to crack in is in the placement sector’’, comes the self-assured second half, ‘‘although unfortunately still, institutes are recognised by the placements they offer.’’ That’s Arindam Chaudhri on his plans and projects, most of which revolve around the IIPMs (Indian Institute of Planning and Management).”
I know all my readers (the few that I have) are brilliant and they can draw the conclusions on their own about the institute and the journalist who wrote that article.
Another quote from http://www.financialexpress.com/fe_full_story.php?content_id=104702
“With increasing competition, educational institutions would apply all the marketing principles; the advertising we will see will be more focused on addressing the needs of the students.
The shift is already evident. A few institutions like IIPM, ISB, Amity International,
Let us pause and think for a while why do IITs and IIMs do not ever advertise?
IIPM does not have/need AICTE approval but this is what happened to their archrivals Amity, Noida recently. Their PGDM program has been derecognized and this is what Government of India website has to say.
http://pib.nic.in/release/release.asp?relid=12056
And here is recent news about Amity in The Hindu, where a student of their engineering college committed suicide alleging teachers in the suicide note.
http://www.hindu.com/2005/10/07/stories/2005100721270300.htm
And clearly this one takes the cake! An interpol notice against the high and mighty of Amity Business School! One link is from a news paper but the next one is from a transcript of the Parliament of India!!

Here is my take (call me a chicken, I did not name the places) on higher education sector, that I wrote a few days ago.

just came across your site. Enjoyed reading the posts :)
international arrest warrant?? OMG! (*o*)
ive just seen that desipundit.com which was introduced in other friend's blog. it looks very interesting!! some are not understandable for foreigners but we wud love it. thank u veery much!!
wow, thats very unfortunate that a student commited suicide.
=(
Kitty, thank you.
Niki, thanks for taking time to check out Desipundit. I know it is a wonderful site.
Normies, and it is even more sad that the mainstream media ignores such issues or do not investigate it in any depth because these institutes advertise a lot in the print media.
Your support is appreciated. And a nice blog you have here.
very good blog. very analytical and introspective. makes one really think.
Jo and Trulyparanoid, thank you.
Hello Mridula,
I saw your comment on Save Indian Family Blog.
We can feel the situation that Gaurab and others are in perfectly as we are 1000 guys/gals facing legal terrorism in India. That is, we all are falsely implicated in various laws which are rampantly misused in India.
1) Firstly, I feel the controversial bloggers can post with pseudonyms. For example, my real name is not Sumanth. I write on quite some controversial topics.
2) In our yahoo group, we have legal experts who advice us immediately. Of course, legal notice has to be answered within a one month time. In legal scenarious one has to buy time.
3) In Legal situations one must not get stubborn. But men are like that. I feel, Gaurav should have removed the posts and played the game.
4) Fight and Flight must be replaced by stay and play.
May be we can discuss more about these strategies later. Tomorrow morning I have to attend a court date. I am a techie.
Sumanth, thanks a lot for yor reply. What does the red disclaimer below the form for free counsel on your site means? All the best with yor court date.
heres a response i posted a rashmis' blog.. thought itd be suitable here as well..
also happened to read gauravs; post after id published this.. but i would still stand by my words and insist that something beyond standing and appreciating gaurav and rashmi from sidelines should be done..
blogging in india is still not a mainstream activity.. let us realise this and look for beyond words of support.. thank you..
im no IIPM-ite.. and neither do i have any affiliation towards the institute..
infact i was an ardent supporter of ur campaign till maybe i read thru andy's comment..
hi rashmi,
i've been a regular reader of JAM since perhaps it was born.. also been following ur blog..a bit from the shadows.. commented just once previously when JAM celebrated its b'day lately..
when i first read ur article in JAM about the bazaar run by ponytail guru.. in the name of IIPM.. i really appreciated ur effort and ur guts to initiate to disrobe this "DARE TO THINK BEYOND.." scandal..
but now when i look back at it.. i see that it was actually a very biased opinion that u are supporting..
being a journalist.. ((im not sure if u qualify as one.. since JAM is not a mainstream journal..)) we would expect u to present a balanced view point on the issue.. and with an a stance directed towards the wrong-doings happening in the name of imparting education..
i understand that anyone would be furious over such dubious claims being passed of and students misguided.. but it should not be a totally one sided flow of thoughts..
well, anyway, ur credibility says u perhaps know better than Me.. and u know it the best what u are doing.. but i also fail to uderstand the logic and the sense that i thought prevailed among bloggers ((and all of them in very respectable positions.. both in their realf lives.. and here in the blogosphere too..))
i also fail to understand this huge rebellious outrage that has sweeped in the blogdom in the name of faltering down IIPMs.. most of them without checking the proper credentials and channels through which this outcry has been breeded, are blindily supporting the cause.. ((or atleast saying so.. wonder how many will actually stand when it comes to..))
and it is not just IIPM.. there are thousands of institutions throughout india which need to approached in much the same way for running a black business under this guise..
if we are standing against one.. let bring em al down to knees..
most of u may now.. ((if practical sense still prevails in u..))may agree that this is not possible.. it runs core into the heartlands of india.. what with right from schools charging exhorbitanat and insane amounts of money for the basic education.. uder the name of donations.. fulfillments of which also leads to cancellation of which also means denial of admission..
many and many more things need to be addressed.. sitting on ur laptops and desktops from ur offices and homes and ranting anti slogans doesnt really count and help..
if u really wanna make it mainstream.. DO somethings more than just publishing blogs.. i dont think arindams gonna lose any business over some pittance calls.. ((hes' definitely making a fool of himself by sending those dubious mails from so called legal cells of planman..
a humble request to all those following and supporting rashmi.. including rashmi herself..
please verify and check details before reading and pledging for just one side of the story.. IIPM is definitely just one such institution.. there are more.. and such intelligent and reputed bloggers are not really expected to bejust acting rebel.. they are also supposd to DO BEYOND..
wishes..
shreyas ghuge
Shreyas, did you cut and paste this comment without reading my post? What is the relevance here?
And sir, what do you plan to do apart from preaching?
This looks like quit a mess. Someday, when I have lots of time, I will read every link in detail.
what gaurav has done should be lauded by all.
the iipm authorities are resorting to 'civilised' strong arming which is despicable in my opinion.
i wonder, how this institute manages to exist here..
Teri, I know it is a mess! Sorry about that.
Yes Poison, you might have seen over at Technorati at what speed people are posting about IIPM. And not complimentary things too!
hey mridula..
can u give me link to rashmi's blog...wud like to know more about IIPM SAGA!!!!
Rinku, you can follow it from here
http://www.desipundit.com/2005/10/08/lies-damned-lies-and-fake-blogs/
or here
http://youthcurry.blogspot.com/2005/10/lies-damned-lies-and-fake-blogs.html
Sorry about not being able to do the HTML part with the links, in a hurry right now.
mridula..
the relevance of the comment here mam, is that u are one of the supporteres of the anti IIPM call..
im one as well..
regarding the copy paste of the comment.. my sincere apologies to you for that..
it was just that i was trying to make a point here to all those who are standing and pledging their supports.. that we'd actually chalk out a strategy and a plan rather than just blog about it.. i thought this call was necessary because, how much ever we shout here.. blogging is not yet a part of the mainstream media.. and hence other than spreading awareness, shouting on our persoanl blogs wouldnt do much good.. ((not that i demean this.. even awareness of IIPM.. or for that matter any of such hoaxes runnin the name of imparting education.. will do a lot good..))
i repeated my comment from rashmi's blog only because there was nothing different to say..
i have posted on this at my blog as well..
my intentions, if read correctly are very right.. and call for an action beyond words.. its time we plan or strategise something.. atleast move to some action.. rather than let rashmi and gaurav battle it out on their fronts and we applaud them from sidelines..
as of what i intend to do.. well, im a 24 year old in the ad industry and from what i see of all the prominent bloggers supporting it.. most are much more experienced about life than i am..
so call for any action and i will support in every possible way i can..
but lets go beyond words..
Shreyas, but this got really big, it is just blogging but this one got big. IIPM is the second most searched word on Technorati today.
My brain cells must have been overheated, hence my curt reply earlier. Sorry, I misunderstood your words.
Do you have any concrete ideas about what to do next? The only small thing that I can think of is to gather more knowledge about what is lible and what is not in the cyberworld.
by law.. in india.. anything published on a private domain does not come under the laws of media regulation and hence gaurav is absolutely not answerable to any objection raised ove what he expresses on his blog.. this is something im sure about..
hence the course of action taken by IIPM in case of gaurav is absolutely illegal.. infact they can be counter sued for threatning..
and of the earlier misunderstandings.., please ignore em all.. i understand that we all are caught in the heat of the moment and hence any little instigation can be taken wrongly..
I think that the media should be informed about all this. I think they are unaware because no one has written about it till now. So, I compiled a list of editors and it would be good if you mailed them too. You can find the list here.
Really stupid of IIPM to pursue this matter to this extent! Hope Gaurav good luck!
