PanganiPangani, On Tanzania's Coast: Hard to get to But Worth Finding!
Most of the ever growing number of visitors to Tanzania make a point (or are persuaded to make a point) of stopping off in the 'spice island' of Zanzibar before their East African safari comes to an end but few thus far seem to have been lured to the tranquil beach setting of the mainland, just across the Indian Ocean. Shakespeare Country: Birthplace of the Bard
Walking along a leafy riverside path through Stratford-Upon-Avon, enjoying the views of gothic churches, half-timbered houses and the green Cotswold countryside beyond, is enough to put anyone in a thoughtful mood. But the musings of one ordinary man, who grew up here five centuries ago, have revolutionised English literature. William Shakespeare's poetry and plays have influenced the work of nearly all the great writers who followed him.

Smog and Scooters, Bread and Cheese In Ho Chi Minh City
I landed in Ho Chi Minh City in a dark cloud of fog and pollution, clutching a guidebook to Vietnam under my arm as if my life depended on it. The drive from the airport to Pham Ngu Lao Street in District One where all the backpacker hotels, restaurants and bars are located takes approximately twenty minutes, and was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Sri Lanka PicThe facts about Sri Lanka - After Tsunami, Most of the Country is Not Damaged
Sri Lanka has been the focus of the world's attention since the tsunami hit our shores on December 26, 2004. Tourism is key to that rebuilding process. A healthy tourist industry will provide jobs and in turn the dignity that will put the world-famous smile back on Sri Lankan faces.

Landmines PicThe Land Mine Museum, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Siem Reap, Cambodia; “Welcome to the Land Mines Museum” reads the sign. Here, off a bumpy, dusty, unsealed road, a few short kilometres from the World Heritage ruins of Angkor Wat and the construction boom of luxury hotels in the city of Siem Reap, the past, present and sadly future of landmines in Cambodia is on display. Eastern Bloc PicTen Tips for Traveling Around the Bloc
1. Pack Well. Certain items can be in scant supply in this part of the world. Bring a flashlight, rechargeable batteries, converters, a strong piece of nylon rope, good pens and paper, a pocket knife, a combination padlock, and all the condoms, tampons, and medical supplies you could possibly need. Healthy snack food is also a good idea (especially in Cuba and North Korea): a jar of peanut butter, dried fruit, granola bars, soup mixes, etc. Read More

Windjamming off the Coast of Maine
The sails were filled with wind and the cobalt ocean lapped at the Heritage's bow. Through the fog the masts of the American Eagle lagged behind. On occasion the chilly Atlantic sprayed my face. Travelling in the mode of a bygone time reminds me of man's need to move. Read More

Bring Your Own Wine to Montreal's Finest Restaurants
For the next couple of nights I am dining with friends from the Jean-Talon Market and Marche des Saveurs. The only thing I am sure about is that they will be fresh, and somewhat cheesy. The Jean-Talon crowd will come in a rainbow of colors and freshly made up. The Marche crowd will be smooth and varied. The best part is I get to choose the wine and pay the restaurant nothing.

Working with Elephants in Sri Lanka: A Volunteer's Journal
Greetings from Kegalle, Sri Lanka; Jon and I have been working, playing, and relaxing here at the Millennium Elephant Foundation's (MEF) elephant bath and eco-farm for about three weeks now.  Time is flying by, and we will be leaving sometime at the end of next week.  Before we came here our expectations were relatively low because of some things a former volunteer we had spoken to told us.  Fortunately for us that particular volunteer was a complete joke, and this place has turned out to be pretty great.  Read More
