Getting Married on Location: Destination Weddings on the Rise
Destination weddings have become a popular trend in travel. Why not travel to a place you and your fiancé have always dreamed of visiting to celebrate the beginning of your lives together? What is the most unique destination you can imagine for your wedding? |
Home Sweet Yemen: Probably Safer Than Where You Live
A popular traveler’s guide to The Arabian Peninsula describes Yemen as "safer than where you come from" and perhaps it is, because Yemen has had none of its formerly famous kidnappings since September 11, 2001. When terrorism swept the world, it apparently left Yemen. |

Following the Trail of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in Bolivia
The story of Butch Cassidy and his sidekick, The Sundance Kid, is one of the great tales of the American Wild West. The tale was adapted for the1969 film, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, which turned the tale of the Wild Bunch outlaws who fled to South America with US$1,000 rewards on their heads into the stuff of Hollywood legend.

Antarctica Without Breaking the Bank
“The first Zodiac to the island will launch in 10 minutes!” Our expedition leader’s voice boomed throughout the P.A. system of our ice-strengthened ship, which was currently anchored just off Half Moon Bay Island in Antarctica. Dozens of keen explorers rushed to queue up for the inflatable Zodiac boats like eager skiers racing toward their favorite chair lift. |
Vietnam like a Local: On Motorcycle
Vietnam is so widely known for its rich history that the country’s current beauty and lively culture are often overlooked. Vietnam has everything to offer from the unique art galleries and fashion houses, bustling marketplaces, and friendly hill tribe villages to boat rides down the serene Perfume River, participating in local dance and music and feasting on ethnic gourmet dishes. |
Chicken in the Pot: Mardi Gras Southwest Louisiana Style
The clucking chicken was racing for its life. Not far behind were several colorfully costumed, hardy, good old boys (many barely of age). Peaked hats and beaked noses hurling themselves into a frenzy on the red moist soil. It was hard to tell, but I thought the chicken just might escape the gumbo pot. Alas, the chicken was destined to become a bigger part of the celebration. It was placed with others in the back of the trailer, the one where the band was playing tunes that are only known locally. I am in Elton, Louisiana, many miles from New Orleans and that was key to my trip. |
Quebec City: World Music, Fine Art, Fois Gras and Frog Legs
A popular travel magazine once said “Quebec is like going to France without the jet lag.” I’ll add to that and say Quebec is like going to France without the jet lag or the attitude. Quebecers or Québécois are the most accommodating foreigners I ever met. I’m here for the Festival d'été de Québec or the 38th Annual International Music Extravaganza. |

Lebanon: Infinite Variety and Delight
The last time I visited Lebanon was two years ago in the winter. The buildings in downtown Beirut still showed the scars of the civil war, and the cold mountain weather made the ski resorts buzzing hot-spots (or cold-spots) for winter sports and showcasing the latest winter fashions. |

Leasing a car in Europe allows you to see more, do more and have more fun.
And it is not as expensive as you might think! |
Spiti Valley: The Middle of the Mystic Himalayas
The Spiti Valley and its neighboring valleys are among the most remote in the world, lying on the border with Tibet in a seldom-traveled corner in the far north of India, smack-dab in the middle of the mystic Himalayas. I entered the Spiti Valley by jogging rapidly across a few-hundred-meter-wide avalanche, ricocheting my attention between slippery footholds and the near-vertical slope above while dodging whizzing boulders larger than me.

Touring Alaska the Green Tortoise Way: Twenty-Eight Days on a "Hippie Bus"
Given the chance, would you like to spend 28 days on a bus with a group of strangers? When I was offered the chance to take a month-long Green Tortoise bus tour of Alaska, I admit I had some misgivings. But the scenery was awesome, the food was fabulous, and I had an opportunity to get to know people from all over the world. |
