Bangkok Quiz, Thailand
True or False: Upon reaching Southeast Asia, Quang and Kelly finally escaped Nescafe.
False. Nescafe is here in full force. Plus, they’ve entered a new market: bottled water.
True of False: In Thailand, cars drive on the right side of the road.
False. Cars drive on the left side of the road (opposite from the United States). Consequently, the steering wheels are flipped.
Which song were Quang and Kelly most surprised to hear in the streets of Bangkok?
A.Hollaback Girl by Gwen Steffani
B.My Humps by Black Eyed Peas
C.Come Away with Me by Nora Jones
D.Dame Mas Gasolina by Daddy Yankee
E.I Wanna Be With You by Mandy Moore
D. After three months in Latin America, we were certain that Shakira and Mana were the two artists we heard most often, but if we had to pick one song we heard the most, it was, without a doubt, Dame Mas Gasolina. Heading to Asia, we thought we’d probably never hear that song again (its in Spanish). We were wrong – we heard it during our layover in the Seoul airport and our second day in Bangkok. We’ve even heard all the others – plus the Buena Vista Social Club CD.
Of the following items, which exists in larger numbers in Bangkok?
A.Mopeds and Motorcycles
B.Utility Wires
C.Street Food Vendors
Even though there are lots of mopeds, motorcycles and street food vendors, we’re going with utility wires.
After spending one week in Bangkok, how many times did Quang and Kelly get a massage?
A.two times
B.three times
C.four times
D.five times
E.six times
D. A one-hour, full-body massage costs 180 baht. That’s a little under 5 USD. A Thai massage mostly works with pressure points: oils and lotions aren’t involved. Plus, all your clothes are on and you are stretched out on a mattress on the floor next to ten other people, but who cares? If someone will rub my feet for less than five bucks, I’m there.

Of the following items, which exists in larger numbers in Bangkok?
A.Images of the Buddha
B.Sprit Houses
C.Portraits of the King
The king is definitely up there, and so are spirit houses. Spirit houses are doll house-sized temples that shelter the spirits. Many homes and businesses have them. People decorate spirit houses with flowers and burn candles before them. They also set out glasses of juice, pieces of fruit and other foods each day for the spirits. But even though the king and the spirit houses make impressive showings, we think the answer is probably A – images of the Buddha.
What have Quang and Kelly eaten in Bangkok?
A.Corn on the Cob
B.Pad Thai
C.Chicken Curry
D.Shrimp Wanton Soup
E.Watermelon
Answer: All of the above
Of the following items, which exists in larger numbers in Bangkok?
A.Male tourists looking for love in all the wrong places
B.Thai women and men willing to supply that love for the right price
C.Signs banning Thai women from entering hotels
Unfortunately, the answer is B.
Which American chain were Quang and Kelly most surprised to see in Bangkok?
A.McDonald’s
B.Starbucks
C.Burger King
D.KFC
E.7 – Eleven
B and E – it’s a tie. We’ve come to expect that McDonald’s, Burger King and KFC will be in every major city, but we were surprised to see Starbucks and 7 – Eleven in Bangkok. And by far, 7 – Eleven bypasses Starbucks in sheer number of locations. In the touristy parts of town there is a 7 – Eleven on every corner, but they even exist outside of Khao San Road.
Which city has the crazier drivers?
A. Buenos Aires
B. Bangkok
Buenos Aires wins - but only by a hair.

Who was more excited?
A.Kelly upon finding the orange pop, Mirinda, she fell in love with in Mexico
B.Quang upon drinking an iced coffee Asian style (made with condensed milk straight from the can).
Even though Kelly was very excited to see Mirinda, Quang wins this one.

why do you pooh-pooh prostitution so handily? I think you don't understand with your western, Christian, shame-based perspective. It's an honest living, the oldest profession in the world and for many, a very healing experience. And on the other side - it can be quite remunerative. I hired a male prostitute in THailand for $1,000 baht. That's about 2 weeks salary for a lot of people there - and he made that in 1 hour and it was mutual, respectful and safe.
