Mexico City - Day 4

So as it turns out, having a music video shot right outside your Mexico City hotel isn't the coolest thing in the world—especially when they are still filming at 1 a.m. Ugh.

Even though our sleep was dearly disrupted, the video shoot did provide plenty of diversions for the evening. We hung out our third floor window for a while and watched the scene. While hanging out the window, I met David, the owner of the restaurant next door. We chatted a bit while hanging out of our respective windows. Then the video director started yelling at us through a bullhorn because we were making “too much noise.” We had to say good-bye. We met on the street later in the night, however. Turns out, David's restaurant, El Cardenal, is one of Mexico City's finest, although they are only open for breakfast and lunch. He invited us for a meal. Perhaps we'll take him up on the offer.

But back to the video. As mentioned, it provided diversions—plural. Besides meeting David, we got to watch a film crew make it rain in our alley. They strung hoses up to the top of a building and then opened the faucets and let the water pour out. And it looked like rain. Pretty amazing.

We also got to watch as the model was instructed several times how to walk through the rain. Not only did she have to jump rope in a skirt and heels, she had to walk through pouring rain about four or five times. She was sopping wet. I hope she got paid well for all her efforts. The singer just rode around on a bike in jeans and kept dry playing piano under a shelter.

And while we've figured out who the singer was—Ricardo Arjona—we're a little bummed that after all of this, we'll probably never get to see the finished video.

Anyway, since we got very little sleep on account of the video shoot, we slept late and bummed around the city all day, accomplishing little. Oh, except we did see our first Diego Rivera murals. That was pretty darn cool.
