Tristan Cano: Writing from the Rock

Tristan Cano was born and brought up in Gibraltar. In the early 1980's the land border joining Gibraltar with Spain was sealed shut, isolating Gibraltarians within its 2.5 sq miles. Until it fully reopened in 1985, a prohibitively expensive flight to the UK was the best opportunity most Gibraltarians had to experience the world beyond Gibraltar's historic city walls.

There was ample time for Tristan to explore every last corner of Gibraltar; a guidebook was already in the making. It was not until 2009 however that Tristan’s first book, Historic Walking Guides: Gibraltar was published.

During six years spent living in the UK, Tristan completed a degree in Law, a Masters degree and the Legal Practice Course. Since returning to the Rock in 2004 he has written for newspapers and magazines and contributed to travel blogs and websites including numerous contributions to GoNOMAD where he has written various articles covering Gibraltar and the cities of Andalucia.

Tristan was called to the Gibraltar Bar in 2009 and is also chief travel contributor to the Gibraltar Chronicle.

He likes writing unusual stories about familiar destinations, though often finds himself writing familiar stories about unusual destinations. Specialities include Gibraltar, Southern Spain, Morocco, and historical travel.

Although Tristan enjoys traveling alone, nothing beats ‘hitting the road.'
