Things to Make Your Next Trip Easier

By Jessica Courtney

Traveling, though often fun, can also be stressful. From lost luggage, to entertaining young children, there are many elements that can contribute to a nerve-racking experience. These new travel gadgets, tested by GoNOMAD staff, will help make your next trip smoother.

Aviator Travel Laptop Stand

If you’ve ever used a laptop on an airplane, you’re familiar with the uncomfortable side effects of placing your computer on the low tray table: bent wrists, slouched shoulders, craned neck.

The Aviator Laptop Stand by Keynamics is ideal for use on airplanes. It raises the keyboard and tilts it toward you, preventing bent wrists and making typing more comfortable. It also raises the screen to provide a better viewing angle.

I tried this product at home, and noticed that it did cut back on hunching quite a bit.

In addition to correcting posture, the stand also keeps laptops cool. Heat becomes trapped underneath laptops placed on flat surfaces, but this stand allows heat to escape.

The Aviator’s three pieces can be assembled and taken apart easily. It is only half an inch wide when disassembled — small enough to fit in a briefcase or carry-on — and weighs a mere nine ounces. The stand costs $19.99, and comes in white, black, gray, light blue, and pink. For more information or to purchase this product, visit keynamics.com

Luggage Locator

The Luggage Locator by Essential Travel Accessories helps you find your suitcase on the airport baggage carousel, or after a cruise. Once you’ve loaded the batteries (included), attach the receiver to your luggage and the remote to your keychain.

When you’ve arrived at your destination, press the button on the remote within 60 feet of your bag. A radio frequency signal finds the receiver, and lets you know where your luggage is with a series of loud beeps and light flashes.

The Luggage Locator can be found in black, canyon orange, ice silver, and grass green, and comes with a one-year limited warranty. It costs $19.99 and can be purchased at etatravelgear.com, where you can also find a store near you that carries it.

The Kids TRAYblecloth

The Kids TRAYblecloth, created by Love to Travel Products, slips over an airplane tray table to provide a clean eating and working area while traveling. It’s made of thick nylon, which is easy to wash, and has front pockets to store small items.

It also has a larger mesh pocket underneath for books or snacks. The TRAYblecloth can stay on the entire flight, even when the table is up.

This product also has an erasable vinyl surface that doubles as a pocket for reusable activity sheets.

I tried this surface and found that it does erase quite easily. It comes with one activity sheet and 4 mini dry-erase markers. More activity sheets can be downloaded for free on their website, including games such as Tic-Tac-Toe, Hangman, 20 Questions, and Complete the Square.

The Kids TRAYblecloth can be purchased at their website for $19.99.  Love to Travel Products also sells the Original TRAYblecoth for adults ($15.99), the Executive TRAYblecloth ($17.99), and a Disposable TRAYblecloth ($6.99 for a pack of 3).

Color Pals Traveling Crayon Holder

Color Pals are cuddly creatures whose thick string legs have caps to hold crayons in place while on the go. The product also has a wrist coil to keep it nearby. Pals include a caterpillar and an octopus. A spider is coming soon.

Each Color Pal comes with an activity book and an eight pack of crayons. It’s perfect for preventing crayon loss while on airplanes or road trips. I have to admit, I kind of want one.

Just remove the cap, shake a small amount of powder into the brush from the container underneath, and sweep on. A protective inner sleeve can also be pulled up for more concentrated application.

They’re free of oil, talc, fragrance, preservatives and dyes, which can irritate skin. They also contain zinc oxide and titanium oxide for UVA/UVB protection.
