LuggageLimits.com: ‘Know Thy Limits’
LuggageLimits.com: “Know Thy Limits”
By Beth Simmons
Your bags are packed, you’re at the airport and ready to travel, but are you really? Are you prepared for additional baggage fees? Before you check your bags it’s important to know your airline’s baggage weight limits.
If you don’t you could end up like Luke Dudley, founder of LuggageLimits.com, who had the travel nightmare of owing a pricey $500 for being over limit. Lucky for him, he had friends nearby who agreed to ship the extra weight, but you might not be so lucky.
So, educate yourself. Look up these fees ahead of time and there’s no better way to do this than using an online directory for different ticket classes and varying baggage policies of 175 airlines. Dudley’s LuggageLimits.com offers just that. It’s all in one place and it’s all online, making a comprehensive and accessible traveler’s guide.
The site was first launched in 2008, inspired by Dudley’s aforementioned baggage debacle. Dudley proves his traveling seniority being originally from England, relocated to Connecticut, and an international traveler.
“I wasn’t a stranger to flying around the world and airlines started introducing baggage fees for everything. I realized this was becoming part of the traveling industry,” he says.
Dudley then began to do his homework by researching and keeping updated on airlines throughout the globe, knowing how convenient this information in one place would be for fellow jet setters.
LuggageLimits.com is a vision come to life where travelers can now enter their airline, departing airport, and arriving airport, and with the click of a button find everything there is to know.
The website organizes luggage information under categories of general airline information, checked baggage, carry on baggage, and overweight fees. Maximum size and weight for checked and carry on items are provided as well.
LuggageLimits will soon be upping the frequent flier ante with an iPhone and Droid application. Very handy for those last minute checks of uncertainty at the airport.
There is no membership necessary for LuggageLimits which means your personal information will not be collected. Travelers can also request the facts on airlines missing from LuggageLimits and Dudley will do the research and add the necessary information as soon as possible.
With or without requests, the site will constantly be evolving, adding more airlines and updating baggage information when applicable. With just a few clicks of the mouse, and in the near future a few taps to your iPhone or Droid, travelers will avoid airport nightmares and fight back against costly baggage fees!
“Airlines count baggage fees as a large share of operating revenue, so these fees are here to stay. The best option for travelers is to be educated about what the airline’s baggage fees and weight limits are and plan accordingly,” says Dudley, “Fellow travelers, know thy limits!”
